I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with Quickstart Guide to Game Design, but wow! It completely blew me away. The way the author explains Educational Games made everything click for me. I've been struggling with Project-Based Learning for years, and this book gave me the tools I needed. My favorite part was when they talked about Coding for Beginners - it reminded me so much of my own experience with Design Principles. I've already recommended it to all my friends!

Quickstart Guide to Game Design is a comprehensive exploration of Game Design that manages to be both accessible to newcomers and valuable to experts. The book is divided into 5 sections, each building thoughtfully on the last. Part 2's discussion of Interactive Design is particularly strong, with clear examples and practical applications. The diagrams and illustrations throughout help clarify complex ideas, and the chapter summaries are excellent for review. My only minor critique is that the conclusion seemed rushed, but this doesn't detract from the overall quality. This will undoubtedly become a standard reference in the field.

While Quickstart Guide to Game Design makes several valuable points about Interactive Design, I found some aspects problematic. The author's treatment of Creative Programming seems oversimplified, particularly when compared to Educational Games. That said, the sections on Programming are genuinely insightful and make the book worth reading despite its flaws. With some refinement in Educational Games, this could be a truly outstanding work.
