While Retro Web-Based Game Programming: Second Edition makes several valuable points about programming, I found some aspects problematic. The author's treatment of programming seems oversimplified, particularly when compared to programming. That said, the sections on javascript are genuinely insightful and make the book worth reading despite its flaws. With some refinement in javascript, this could be a truly outstanding work.

Retro Web-Based Game Programming: Second Edition is a comprehensive exploration of programming that manages to be both accessible to newcomers and valuable to experts. The book is divided into 7 sections, each building thoughtfully on the last. Part 2's discussion of programming is particularly strong, with clear examples and practical applications. The diagrams and illustrations throughout help clarify complex ideas, and the chapter summaries are excellent for review. My only minor critique is that the conclusion seemed rushed, but this doesn't detract from the overall quality. This will undoubtedly become a standard reference in the field.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with Retro Web-Based Game Programming: Second Edition, but wow! It completely blew me away. The way the author explains javascript made everything click for me. I've been struggling with programming for years, and this book gave me the tools I needed. My favorite part was when they talked about programming - it reminded me so much of my own experience with javascript. I've already recommended it to all my friends!
