Don't Wait!: Build Retro Games and Level Up Your Skills is a comprehensive exploration of Retro Games that manages to be both accessible to newcomers and valuable to experts. The book is divided into 8 sections, each building thoughtfully on the last. Part 5's discussion of Arcade Development is particularly strong, with clear examples and practical applications. The diagrams and illustrations throughout help clarify complex ideas, and the chapter summaries are excellent for review. My only minor critique is that some examples felt dated, but this doesn't detract from the overall quality. This will undoubtedly become a standard reference in the field.

While Don't Wait!: Build Retro Games and Level Up Your Skills makes several valuable points about Arcade Development, I found some aspects problematic. The author's treatment of Beginner Coding seems oversimplified, particularly when compared to Arcade Development. That said, the sections on 2D Games are genuinely insightful and make the book worth reading despite its flaws. With some refinement in Programming for Beginners, this could be a truly outstanding work.

As a scholar in Retro Games, I found Don't Wait!: Build Retro Games and Level Up Your Skills to be an exceptional contribution to the field. The author's approach to Arcade Development is both innovative and rigorous, providing fresh insights that challenge conventional wisdom. Particularly noteworthy is the discussion of Game Design Basics, which offers a compelling framework for understanding Game Design Basics. While some may argue that Game Design Basics, the evidence presented is thorough and convincing. This book is essential reading for anyone serious about Retro Games.
