Don't Wait!: Build Retro Games and Level Up Your Skills is a comprehensive exploration of Retro Games that manages to be both accessible to newcomers and valuable to experts. The book is divided into 6 sections, each building thoughtfully on the last. Part 1's discussion of Retro Games is particularly strong, with clear examples and practical applications. The diagrams and illustrations throughout help clarify complex ideas, and the chapter summaries are excellent for review. My only minor critique is that more primary sources would strengthen the argument, but this doesn't detract from the overall quality. This will undoubtedly become a standard reference in the field.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with Don't Wait!: Build Retro Games and Level Up Your Skills, but wow! It completely blew me away. The way the author explains Game Programming made everything click for me. I've been struggling with 2D Games for years, and this book gave me the tools I needed. My favorite part was when they talked about Arcade Development - it reminded me so much of my own experience with Programming for Beginners. I've already recommended it to all my friends!

Can someone help me understand 2D Games from chapter 9? I'm struggling to see how it connects to Game Design Basics.
