As a scholar in Data Visualization, I found Lying with Visualizations: Seeing Isn't Believing to be an exceptional contribution to the field. The author's approach to Deceptive Charts is both innovative and rigorous, providing fresh insights that challenge conventional wisdom. Particularly noteworthy is the discussion of Media Literacy, which offers a compelling framework for understanding Information Design. While some may argue that Visual Manipulation, the evidence presented is thorough and convincing. This book is essential reading for anyone serious about Data Visualization.

While Lying with Visualizations: Seeing Isn't Believing makes several valuable points about Deceptive Charts, I found some aspects problematic. The author's treatment of Deceptive Charts seems oversimplified, particularly when compared to Information Design. That said, the sections on Media Literacy are genuinely insightful and make the book worth reading despite its flaws. With some refinement in Information Design, this could be a truly outstanding work.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with Lying with Visualizations: Seeing Isn't Believing, but wow! It completely blew me away. The way the author explains Media Literacy made everything click for me. I've been struggling with Infographics for years, and this book gave me the tools I needed. My favorite part was when they talked about Data Visualization - it reminded me so much of my own experience with Critical Thinking. I've already recommended it to all my friends!

Lying with Visualizations: Seeing Isn't Believing is a comprehensive exploration of Data Visualization that manages to be both accessible to newcomers and valuable to experts. The book is divided into 7 sections, each building thoughtfully on the last. Part 2's discussion of Deceptive Charts is particularly strong, with clear examples and practical applications. The diagrams and illustrations throughout help clarify complex ideas, and the chapter summaries are excellent for review. My only minor critique is that more primary sources would strengthen the argument, but this doesn't detract from the overall quality. This will undoubtedly become a standard reference in the field.

Has anyone else noticed how Lying with Visualizations: Seeing Isn't Believing relates to Critical Thinking? I was reading about Visual Manipulation and it made me think of chapter 1.
